We’re live at Bender Arena on the campus of AU for the quarterfinals of the Patriot League tournament. Top seed AU faces eighth-seed Lafayette. But even though AU is 21-7 and Lafayette is 8-21, this could be an interesting game.

Just last Saturday in Easton, Pa., AU needed overtime to defeat the Leopards (what a great nickname), 75-68. Lafayette rallied from 11 points down in the second half.

The Eagles are the top seed for the second straight year. Last year, they won the tournament on their homecourt over Colgate and gave Tennessee a run for its money in the NCAA tournament.

The key for AU is obvious — guard play. Derrick Mercer and Garrison Carr are the best guard duo in the league. Both players were first-team all-league and Mercer was the league’s player of the year.

Carr averages 17.5 points and 3.0 rebounds; Mercer 11.5 and 4.3.

The winner advances to Sunday’s semifinals against the Army-Lehigh winner.
