While working on this morning’s dead-tree edition story on Virginia faceoff man Chad Gaudet, I came across what was (for me anyway) a very, very weird coincidence.

Gaudet’s football career (as a tailback) at Dartmouth ended with a left leg injury in a Sept. 17, 2005, game against Colgate.

That game seemed familiar, and sure enough, it was. It was the same day DeMatha product and Colgate freshman Jordan Scott took over for two injured Raiders runners and went on to a record-setting push over four seasons. That stood out only because of a bye-week story I did last fall on Scott.

And that officially makes the 2005 Colgate-Dartmouth tussle one that’s been referenced in the blog and the dead-tree edition more than I ever would have imagined.
