HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Just got into the press box at Hofstra, and here’s a few things I’ve already learned today.

* Brian Phipps will indeed start in goal for Maryland today. That’s no surprise at all, and he could go the distance in his third straight game. That would be the first time a Maryland goalie did that since … Phipps started the first five games of his career in 2007.

* There is a Chipotle less than a mile from Shuart Stadium. Dinner plans are made.

* Traffic was fairly tame on the way up other than roving pothole crews on the Belt Parkway. As a newbie driving in the New York area, let me say that drivers should be paid to travel across the narrow Goethals Bridge rather than handing over $8 for every eastboard crossing.

More to come from Hofstra throughout the day.
