WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It’s safe to put another W on Virginia Tech’s ledger.

Which means Boston College (now down 41-7) will lose for the second time in conference play.

Clemson and Florida State already have two ACC setbacks. And Wake Forest, if it stumbles tonight against Maryland, will as well.

Which, needless to say, would put Maryland in the catbird’s seat in the Atlantic Division race – at least as much as you can be with only a quarter of the conference games out of the way. In this scenario, only N.C. State would be within one in the loss column of Ralph Friedgen’s team.

For as awful as September was for the Terrapins, October couldn’t shape up much better. Now it’s on Maryland to exploit the opportunity set in front of it – or just sink back into the middling mass that is the ACC’s Atlantic Division.
