A message from superb Duke SID Art Chase just landed in my e-mail box – the Blue Devils’ injury report for Saturday’s game against Maryland.
First the names, and then the impact it will have on the weekend’s proceedings:
RB Re’quan Boyette (knee)
LB Abraham Kromah (leg)
WR Tyree Watkins (leg)
OUT FOR SEASON
RB Kyle Griswould (leg)
S Anthony Young-Wiseman (knee)
Griswould and Young-Wiseman have been out all season, and both Kromah and Watkins missed Duke’s game at N.C. State before the bye week.
So that leaves Boyette, the Blue Devils’ starting tailback. He’s run for 103 yards on 53 carries, and caught 11 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
His backups are Jay Hollingsworth (who hasn’t had a carry since Sept. 19) and true freshman Desmond Scott, who made his debut against North Carolina Central on Sept. 26 and leads Duke with 147 yards rushing.
Given his recent work, Scott (a Durham native) is probably the better bet to play more. And given his five receptions against N.C. State, he’s going to be able to help out quarterback Thaddeus Lewis in more than one way against the Terrapins.
