ANNAPOLIS – What would an autumn Saturday be without football? That’s a question that’s relative for Maryland fans this fall, but with the Terps on the bye, it seemed like an opportunity to get a look at Nav.

The Mids trail Temple 17-10, and there’s a good chance the most interesting stuff to happen in this game occurred on my drive from College Park to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Including:

* A cameo by injured quarterback Ricky Dobbs on a fourth-and-1 (he was stuffed).

* A 60+ yard touchdown run for Temple (those aren’t common in Maryland games).

* A botched snap/short punt/scoop and return for a touchdown by Navy.

* A Temple kickoff return for a touchdown right after said wacky punt.

And that doesn’t even touch on the most compelling part of the day. The winner assures itself bowl eligibility. For Navy, that means locking up a Texas Bowl berth. For Temple, it means just locking up a .500 season (though the Owls are very much in the MAC title chase).

More to come later, particularly if the next 27 minutes live up to the first half and change.
