As usual, I am a sucker for a little history – especially if it gets everyone thinking about basketball now.

The CAA released its 25th anniversary team today, and there are some local names that pretty much had to be on that roster.

First of all, that David Robinson guy, who was above average at both Navy and in the NBA.

There’s also a healthy George Mason contingent, which includes George Evans, Jai Lewis, Will Thomas and (in a turn back the clock call) Kenny Sanders.

In a nod to American’s time in the league, Brian Gilgeous (the CAA’s player of the year in 1993) was also included. Same goes for Navy, which got Vernon Butler and Doug Wojcik from its Admiral-era teams on the list.

And from purely a casual fan’s viewpoint, seeing UNC Wilmington’s Brett Blizzard, East Carolina’s Blue Edwards, James Madison’s (by way of Maryland) Steve Hood and Virginia Commonwealth’s Eric Maynor was impressive.

Overall, it’s an impressive list. And I’d bet by season’s end if the league wants to add a 26th man, VCU’s Larry Sanders would prove to be an especially worthy choice.
