Bruce Campbell out, plus more tidbits

← return to D1SCOURSE

Maryland left tackle Bruce Campbell will miss Saturday’s game at Wake Forest with a knee injury.

Campbell injured his left MCL late in the third quarter of last week’s defeat of Clemson. Coach Ralph Friedgen initially declared him out, then left the door open earlier this week.

Today, though, Friedgen said Campbell wouldn’t play at Wake after all. That’s not much of a surprise, considering Campbell didn’t practice earlier in the week.

Paul Pinegar starts at left tackle and R.J. Dill at right with Campbell out.

Elsewhere …

* Center Danny Edwards has a concussion and will miss the game. Bennett Fulper will be the backup center.

* Punter Travis Baltz (ankle) is questionable to return next week. Friedgen said Baltz is optimistic about returning, while the Terps’ medical staff is less so (more on this later).

* Friedgen re-iterated Tony Logan will handle punt return duties, though he indicated any punt returner needs to do a better job of communicating with the rest of the return team.

* Friedgen re-re-iterated that Morgan Green has fallen out of the mix as much because of limited progress over a longer period of time than anything else, but didn’t close the door on Green re-emerging down the road (more on this as well later).

OK, that’s the main items of the day. Check back later in the evening for a couple more entries.
