Terps add a QB

A little roster addition to pass along.

Quarterback Clay Belton transferred this week from Miami (Ohio), where he started part of last season. He’s been at practice the last couple days, wearing No. 13.

“You noticed that?” coach Ralph Friedgen said. “Very observant.”

Just what I’m here for.

The numbers for the 6-foot-5 Belton aren’t ultra-imposing: 63-for-115, 639 yards, 2 TD and 3 INT. But that was as a redshirt freshman.

Belton, who will have two years of eligibility left, attended Maryland’s scrimmage last Thursday and was able to get into school. Friedgen seemed pleased to have an extra quarterback walk on, but wasn’t in a rush to have an extended discussion on his strengths at this stage.

“I’m a little more focused on the guys who are eligible this year,” Friedgen said.
