It’s basically a once every week or so deal at this point, but I can’t help but to check in on California (Pa.)’s site to see how former Terp Josh Portis is doing.

And yesterday, he did very, very well.

Facing Gannon (the school, not the Legend of Zelda villian), Portis completed 17 of 26 for 262 yards and five touchdowns as the Vulcans rolled to a 52-10 victory.

Through four games, Portis is 56 of 109 for 753 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has 24 carries for 148 yards – a modest six carries a game for a guy who was basically used as an extra running bacl last season at Maryland.

California is 2-2, and probably can’t afford to lose more than one more time if it wants to reach the Division II playoffs. But there’s still a chance for that to happen, and it’ll be a lot more likely if Portis strings together a few games like yesterday’s.
