Maryland left tackle Justin Gilbert, listed as a starter entering spring practice after missing the last 10 games a season ago, reinjured his left knee last week.
Coach Randy Edsall told reporters during a Monday teleconference that Gilbert will likely be out until at least October.
“Justin Gilbert had ACL surgery last Thursday,” Edsall said. “He was back out and just got hurt in a noncontact drill, so he’s out probably until October. That’s something I feel bad about. I feel bad for Justin. He was really chomping at the bit to get out there.”
Edsall said Gilbert reinjured the left knee he injured Sept. 18 at West Virginia. In the second half that day, Gilbert’s knee buckled as he stepped back into pass protection. He missed the rest of the season after starting the first three games.
With Gilbert out, sophomore Max Garcia takes over the top spot on the depth chart at left tackle.
