Puerto Rico Tip-Off field finalized

So, it’s the last week of April. Time for some basketball scheduling minutiae.

The final team in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, a tournament Maryland will participate in is (drum roll, please) … Western Michigan.

The Broncos join Alabama, Colorado, Iona, Purdue, Temple and Wichita State as potential opponents for Maryland.

Next, here’s a tidbit from last week I didn’t notice until the last 24 hours. Brian Mull of the Wilmington Star News reported last week UNC Wilmington had a Nov. 13 date at Maryland. He clarified yesterday the contract was not yet finalized, though the game could still happen.

So that’s at least a possibility.

It also sets up the incomplete Maryland schedule thusly:

Nov. 17-18, 20: Puerto Rico Tip-Off (Alabama, Colorado, Iona, Purdue, Temple, Western Michigan and Wichita State)
TBA:
vs. TBA (ACC/Big Ten Challenge)
TBA:
vs. Notre Dame (BB&T Classic)
TBA: vs. Temple (at the Palestra)

Eight other nonconference games (possibly Nov. 13 vs. UNC Wilmington)

Home-and-away: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia
Home: Boston College, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Away: Clemson, Florida State, N.C. State
