ANNAPOLIS – Navy completed the first part of its final two-a-day Monday morning. It was also the Midshipmen’s first session since Saturday’s scrimmage.

So what did the tape show that maybe wasn’t so obvious before the sky opened up over the weekend?

“We had way too many efforts as a team,” coach Ken Niumatalolo said. “That’s what we pride ourselves on, playing hard. It definitely wasn’t to our standards.”

Other miscues – such as turnovers and a penchant for yielding big plays – were obvious well before coaches broke down the film.

Also of note:

* Junior wide receiver Matt Shibata underwent an MRI exam on an injured knee. Niumatalolo said results of the exam were not yet available.

* Tackle David Sumrall (concussion) sat out of practice again. Ryan Basford has switched from right tackle to left, while Andrew Barker is filling in at right tackle while Sumrall recovers.
