It seems like lacrosse season just ended. Well, sort of. It was less than three months ago, and even less time since Rick Sowell was hired as Navy’s new coach.

Well, the Midshipmen released their 2012 schedule today, a full 169 days before they open up Feb. 11 against VMI.

As for a quick breakdown …

WHAT’S GONE

* The early home-and home with Loyola. The Greyhounds won a pair of one-goal games the last two years, but that local series won’t be resumed this season

* The long-running series with Georgetown. The teams met 22 times over the last 21 years, including in the 2006 NCAA tournament. The Hoyas led the series 15-7 and had won six of the last seven games.

WHAT’S NEW

* Navy shifted its conference date against Lehigh into the weekend slot previously occupied by Georgetown. After holding on for a 10-8 victory over the Mountain Hawks in 2008 and then losing in a trip to Bethlehem last season, it was time for the Mids to finally play all of their conference games on the weekend. Its slot from last year – sandwiched between North Carolina and Bucknell – certainly wasn’t making life easier.

* Navy will meet Jacksonville for the first time. The Mids will play their first game in Florida since 2005 as the front end of a doubleheader also featuring Ohio State-Denver.
