Maryland will enter preseason camp next week with two players shelved because of injuries, coach Randy Edsall said Thursday.
Edsall said tackle Justin Gilbert will be limited to individual work as he continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in spring practice. Gilbert missed the last 10 games last season because of another torn ACL.
“He’s not going to be a guy who will be ready to go until probably October,” Edsall said, affirming the initial diagnosis from the spring.
Meanwhile, freshman offensive lineman Stephen Grommer has a fracture in a foot. The freshman from Spartanburg, S.C., is listed as Maryland’s fourth-string right guard entering his first camp.
“He won’t be ready to go when they come back here for practice,” Edsall said.
Edsall also said tackle Pete DeSouza, who suffered two broken legs in a scooter accident in October, has been cleared for full contact.
