Junior college defensive back Isaac Goins signed with Maryland.
The 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback played two years at Contra Costa College in California, where he had six interceptions this season.
Goins will likely have a chance to compete for immediate playing time. Seniors Cameron Chism and Trenton Hughes, who split time at one of the Terrapins’ cornerback positions, are out of eligibility.
One starter, junior-to-be Dexter McDougle returns. But Jeremiah Johnson, his backup for most of the year, played sparingly.
Goins’ signing places Maryland’s total of scholarship players at 61. That figure does not account for potential further attrition – eight scholarship players have departed since the end of the season – nor for the program’s signing day haul in February.
