Maryland long ago fell out of NCAA tournament contention.

Sunday, the Terrapins got left out of the NIT as well.

Maryland (19-14) was excluded from both tournaments on Sunday, the first time that’s happened since 1993.

Three ACC schools – Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech – earned NIT berths,

The 32-team NIT included 14 automatic qualifiers, leaving only 18 at-large berths for the rest of the field. Regular season conference champions left out of the NCAA tournament are assured places in the NIT.
