CLEVELAND – George Mason guard Cam Long got, at minimum, a start on finishing off his career the way he wanted to when the Patriots defeated Villanova on Friday.

But when he returned to the locker room – even before Mason learned for sure it would meet top-seeded Ohio State in Sunday’s round of 32 – he found a bit of a surprise.

Text messages. Even more tweets.

And, in an intriguing double-edged sword, absolutely no idea where much of his communication was coming from.

“I probably had at least about 30 text messages,” Long said. “Not really phone calls, but I had tweets – a lot of tweets. What was so funny about it was a majority came from numbers that I didn’t even know who they were. I mean, it can be a funny thing, but then it can be a scary thing because [I’m wondering] ‘How are they getting my number?’ Second of all, ‘Who are they and why are they trying to hit me up?’”

Very good questions indeed. Guess that’s just the price of a little added fame.
