Virginia senior midfielder Rhamel Bratton will not play in Saturday’s NCAA tournament quarterfinal against Cornell, coach Dom Starsia said Tuesday.

Bratton was suspended for the Cavaliers’ regular season finale against Penn last month, and also sat out Sunday’s 13-12 defeat of Bucknell in the first round.

“His status is unchanged for this week,” Starsia said. “He will not be activated. He has some academic matters to attend to in town this week and may join us at Hofstra.”

Bratton, who started 12 games for the seventh-seeded Cavaliers (10-5), has 17 goals and five assists. He was also suspended for a game earlier this season against Stony Brook.

Bratton scored two goals in Virginia’s 11-9 defeat of the second-seeded Big Red on March 12.

Bratton’s brother, Shamel, was dismissed from the team last month after multiple violation of team rules.
