It’s been a busy week, one that included a half-hour discussion with Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson about a variety of topics.

The seemingly never-ending parade of news over the last few days limited how much of that could be delved into – and it will be in the coming days – but one question late in the interview seems a little more relevant today.

Namely, how has Anderson’s working relationship with Gary Williams started to develop? It was a logical questions considering Williams’ contentious relationship with Anderson’s predecessor, Debbie Yow.

Anderson attended several postgame press conferences in what proved to be the final season for Williams, who retired Thursday. The two would often talk as Williams walked back to the locker room.

But their interactions were hardly limited to those exchanges.

“I don’t know how I can even start thanking him for what he’s done for me and how he’s worked with me and the other coaches,” Anderson said. “We’ve put some coaching councils together and groups of coaches to work on how we can better Maryland athletics. He’s been instrumental in that. He’s a resource for all our coaches. He’s reached out to them. They’ve reached out to him. But my working relationship with him, how he’s supported me and how I’ve been able to bounce things off him, he’s just been tremendous. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
