Justin Anderson hobbled off Maryland’s practice field on the first day of camp.
It may have effectively meant the end of his season.
The defensive end is unlikely to play this season, coach Randy Edsall said Tuesday. Anderson underwent foot surgery after the first week of camp and was expected to miss six weeks.
“I doubt we’ll see Justin Anderson the rest of the year,” Edsall said. “He’s practicing, but again as I’ve told you guys before, just because they’ve been cleared to practice doesn’t mean they’re going to go out there and play. You have to see in practice they can go out and play the way they’re capable so they don’t go out there and hurt themselves more.”
Anderson started 13 games at Maryland’s Anchor position last season, then shuttled between defensive end and defensive tackle after the Terps changed coaches and schemes. He has yet to redshirt, so this will serve that function. Anderson will have two years of eligibility remaining if he does take a redshirt.
