Maryland backfield moving toward consolidation

Davin Meggett and Justus Pickett took the bulk of the carries in Maryland’s 28-3 defeat of Towson on Saturday.

D.J. Adams had just three carries early in the game.

That might be the start of a trend for the Terrapins.

“I think the one thing you’ll probably see is you’ll probably see Justus a little bit more,” coach Randy Edsall said. “It’s a decision you make as a coach that you take a look and you’re always evaluating and have thoughts. Just going forward, it might be a situation where we’ll just be using  those two and Jeremiah [Wilson] on third down.”

That scenario would notably exclude Adams, who rushed for 11 touchdowns last season, from the backfield mix. Adams was suspended for the opener, but received plenty of red zone work in his return against West Virginia. Yet in the last two games, he’s managed only six carries and 12 yards.
