Terps' Bowers, Murphy listed as co-starters at defensive end

Maryland freshmen Keith Bowers and Clarence Murphy are listed as co-starters at defensive end, a week after junior Isaiah Ross was lost to a left leg injury in the Terrapins’ season-opening defeat of Miami.

Both Bowers and Murphy made their debuts in the opener. Bowers, one of four true freshmen to play for Maryland against the Hurricanes, made two tackles in that game. Murphy, who redshirted last year, made one.

Coach Randy Edsall said last week Ross would undergo surgery. Edsall did not specify the nature of the injury nor did he specify a time frame for Ross’ return.

Some other depth chart tweaks …

* Freshman Justus Pickett, who had six carries for 22 yards against Miami, is listed as the outright No. 2 tailback. Neither D.J. Adams, who was suspended for the opener, nor redshirt freshman Jeremiah Wilson is listed at tailback.

* Dexter McDougle is listed as the outright starter at cornerback over Jeremiah Johnson. McDougle started the opener after missing part of camp with an injury.

* Titus Till is listed as the outright backup to Eric Franklin at safety. He previously was a co-second stringer with Anthony Green.
