Maryland debuted on Labor Day.
D.J. Adams, it appears, will make his first appearance of the season on Saturday against No. 18 West Virginia.
The sophomore tailback will be available for the Terrapins’ second game after sitting out the opener against Miami for a violation of team rules.
“We have some things in the game plan that we think D.J. will be able to do,” coach Randy Edsall said. “We’ll see him out on the field as long as he progresses the way we think he will during the week. We have things in mind for D.J. – without getting too specific today – in terms of what we want him to do. There’s certain things we want Justus [Pickett] to do. And then Davin [Meggett] will carry the heavy load.”
Meggett had 21 carries for 92 yards in the opener. Pickett, the No. 2 tailback, rushed six times for 22 yards in his college debut.
Adams is not listed on the depth chart, which goes only two players deep at each position.
“There will be a role for D.J. this week,” Edsall said. “He’s back in good graces. He served his penance. When you have those situations that come up, you deal with them and then when they’re over you move forward and nobody holds a grudge. He understands that.”
