Maryland defensive end Ian Evans has left the program.
Evans was the only scholarship player not in attendance at Tuesday’s practice. Coach Randy Edsall said he was informed earlier in the day Evans would leave the Terrapins.
“Ian came to see me today and he’s decided to leave the university for some personal reasons that he has,” Edsall said. “I just wished him well and hope that he gets all those things resolved and taken care of.”
Evans played in four games last year as a redshirt freshman, making seven tackles (one for loss). The Atco, N.J., native was listed fourth on the depth chart at defensive end entering camp.
Evans’ departure leaves Maryland with 79 scholarship players, six less than the NCAA maximum. Of the 19 true freshman from the Terps’ 2010 team, only nine remain with the program.
