Maryland depth chart tweaks: Nixon listed as a starter

It’s a quiet week of depth chart changes for Maryland, with the most noticeable switch something that reflects what unfolded on the field during Saturday’s 19-14 defeat of Wake Forest.

Freshman Anthony Nixon started in place of Matt Robinson, who did not play with a groin injury. In turn. Nixon is listed atop the depth chart this week with A.J. Hendy as his backup.

Robinson is not listed. At the other safety spot, Eric Franklin is listed ahead of Sean Davis.

There are three other changes, all of them involving reserves:

* Junior Isaiah Ross is listed as the No. 2 nose tackle behind Darius Kilgo. Former walk-on Alex Walker fell off the depth chart for the first time all season.

* Sophomore Keith Bowers is listed as the sole backup to A.J. Francis at defensive end. Bowers and Ross were co-backups a week ago.

* Marcus Leak is now the No. 2 punt returner behind Stefon Diggs, replacing Dexter McDougle. Considering Leak operated as the second safety on Maryland’s punt return team last month at West Virginia, this change isn’t a massive surprise, either.

As for what’s the same? Alex Twine and Kenneth Tate remain co-starters at strong-side linebacker, and the four-way logjam at tailback remains in place – though coach Randy Edsall indicated Sunday it would be Justus Pickett and Wes Brown who receive the bulk of the work this week against Virginia.
