Maryland freshman Stefon Diggs‘ much-hyped debut produced 83 all-purpose yards.

It didn’t produce quite the number of opportunities coach Randy Edsall hoped for.

Diggs had five touches on offense (three receptions for 30 yards and two carries for three yards) as well as three punt returns in his first game at Maryland as the Terrapins edged William & Mary 7-6.

“We wanted to try to get him about 10 touches today,” Edsall said. “So we were close. We didn’t get to where [we wanted]. We wanted to get him at least 10 touches offensively, is what we wanted to do. So we were close there.”

Diggs caught all three of the passes thrown his way. He also had had at least 12 yards on each of his punt returns, though he did not have a kickoff return.

“First collegiate game, just getting the feel of it, it was a good one,” Diggs said.
