With 4:27 left in the game, Brooks Laich punches the puck through a hectic scrum directly in front of the goal. Laitch was practically on his back and appeared to deflect the puck off defenseman Brian Campbell, causing it to then bounce over the left pad of Khabibulin. The referees consulted replay for nearly five minutes before confirming the goal.
