John Carlson will return to London of the OHL and Mathieu Perreault will be driving to Hershey this afternoon. Both had productive camps, and could help the Caps in the near future. Carlson has already missed four games with the Knights, so the Hunters will be glad to have him back.

“For an 18-year-old, I really thought he stood up and did a great job,” Caps coach Bruce Boudreau said.

Perreault will have to get in line when it comes to call-ups from Hershey unless he is fantastic early in the season. He probably needs at least a year of AHL seasoning anyway, but he hasn’t looked out of place during Caps camp.

Also, Simeon Varlamov is dealing with a groin injury he incurred during that shooting gallery he faced at Carolina. Boudreau asked Varlamov to go through the early portion of practice so the team would have two goalies, and then he went to get treatment after. If he can’t play tomorrow or Wednesday, then his preseason action may end being limited to that one period. Both Jose Theodore and Brent Johnson are likely to play a full game in the final two preseason contests.
