With the Caps on a penalty kill, Brooks Laich (as usual) slid to the ice to block a slap shot. Kyle Quincey’s shot from the point appeared to hit Laich on his right shin/ankle.
Laich winced and limped as he got to his feet, staying in position until Jose Theodore was able to corral the puck. After the whistle, Laich left the ice and went to the Caps’ dressing room.
Laich has returned to the ice late in the second period, but didn’t look 100 percent.
Now we know why. Caps media relations man Nate Ewell just announced that Laich has a contusion and that the team will know more about it Friday. He’s probably day-to-day, but that’s all that is known right now.
