A team spokesman just confirmed that defenseman Tyler Sloan and Sean Collins have signed contract extensions with the Caps. Both were restircted free agents.
Collins inked a two-year deal at $650,000 per season and Sloan signed a one-year pact. That means the Caps now have 18 defensemen under their control for next season, including RFAs Shaone Morrisonn, Milan Jurcina, Jeff Schultz, Sami Lepisto and Sasha Pokulok.
Sloan proved to be a valuable depth defenseman this past season, and Collins certainly didn’t look out of place during his time with the Caps. Still, cracking a deep Washington defense corps — one that could see another addition this summer — could be tough to do for both.
