The Caps have recalled Keith Aucoin from Hershey and he is out there on the ice. Sergei Fedorov is on the ice, so Aucoin is probably in wait-and-see mode just like Alexandre Giroux was in Philadelphia.

No sign of Donald Brashear out there, but Jose Theodore is back after a a day off. No reason to think he won’t be in net tonight. Maybe Michal Neuvirth gets a start Monday in Atlanta, the team’s last back-to-back of the season.

There are kids from a youth team running around here called the Junior Fire Antz. They are from Fayetteville (not sure which one). That’s certainly a unique one.

UPDATE: Fedorov is a game-time decision. He’s probably more doubtful than not. Brashear is defenitely out.

Bruce Boudreau didn’t rule out Keith Aucoin being in the lineup even if Fedorov does play. Aucoin has an AHL-best 86 points this season. His career high is 99 points, which he set in 2006-07 with the Albany River Rats. They belong to the Carolina Hurricanes, which happen to be tonight’s opponent.

Boudreau said not to read too much into Aucoin being called up to possibly face his old team (all 15 of his NHL points came with the Canes). He said Giroux was added to play a bigger, tougher Philly team while Aucoin fits better against a speedy Carolina team.

The Hurricanes are just going on the ice here at K-Plex for their morning skate.
