Beagle sent down, Kozlov update

The Caps have sent forward Jay Beagle back to Hershey of the American Hockey League, his club for most of the season. Sunday’s game against the Panthers was Beagle’s third with Washington this season.

Beagle played Sunday in place of Viktor Kozlov, who has been battling a groin injury. Bruce Boudreau said again this morning that it was a precautionary measure to sit Kozlov.

“You just wanna be more cautious,” he said. “If we were in Florida’s spot, he probably would’ve played.”

He is OK, Boudreau said. And Beagle’s demotion makes it clear the team thinks Kozlov will be ready to go when the Caps play the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Boudreau said he has yet to decide on a starting goalie. After Sunday’s game, he praised starter Jose Theodore, saying it was the netminder’s fault. Boudreau replaced Theodore with Michal Neuvirth to protect Theodore with the score 4-1 Panthers.
