Alex Ovechkin has missed most of the second period with what looks like an arm/shoulder/chest injury. He got into a scrum near the Blue Jackets bench early in the period and came away favoring his arm/shoulder in the penalty box.

One of his next shifts, he fell to the ice after colliding with Raffi Torres and got up grimacing. He went directly to the dressing room and hasn’t returned.

The scrum started when Jason Chimera, who Ovechkin had tuned up with a big hit earlier, bumped him as he skated by the Blue Jackets bench. Ovechkin stopped, came back and gave Chimera a two-handed shove and then choas ensued.

Ovechkin, Chimera and Jared Boll all got roughing minors while Boll also collected a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

Between periods, Capitals GM George McPhee said Ovechkin “may return.” But Ovechkin wasn’t on the bench or on the ice to start the third period.
