Theodore in net for Caps

Just spoke with Caps coach Bruce Boudreau. He says Jose Theodore is in net tonight and Semyon Varlamov will start Saturday at home against the Maple Leafs.

Boudreau said Theodore is playing better right now than he was at the start of last season, and he’s had some success in this building so that’s why he earned the nod tonight. Not to nitpick, but “he’s our No. 1 goaltender” was not part of the rationale.

The Caps coach also called the Bruins the best team in the league for the second time today, citing their performance last year and a very deep roster. If the Bruins aren’t the best team, Detroit, Philadelphia or San Jose might be, and they are all on the schedule in the next 2 1/2 weeks. Washington will certainly be tested early in this season.
