Tom Tancredo was shaken up after his motorcycle was hit by a car Sunday, but it hasn’t affected his sense of sarcasm.

The Tancredo campaign couldn’t resist taking a shot Tuesday after campaign-finance reports showed that Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes raised just $14,000 in the last two weeks. Mr. Tancredo, the former Republican congressman, raised $120,000 during the same period as the American Constitution Party candidate.

“Dan Maes said he would make history. Well he has. Dan raised less money in a reporting period than any other Republican candidate for governor of Colorado ever has. Congratulations, Dan,” said Tancredo campaign manager Bay Buchanan.

Democratic hopeful John Hickenlooper was the top fundraiser with $218,000. The report from the Secretary of State’s office also showed Mr. Maes with just $24,000 in the bank, raising questions about whether he can run a viable campaign.

As for Mr. Tancredo’s motorcycle accident, it totaled his Harley-Davidson and left him with a bad case of road rash, but otherwise the 64-year-old candidate was fine and back on the campaign trail Tuesday. He was, however, rebuked by The Denver Post for failing to wear a helmet, which is not required in Colorado.
