The Tea Party Patriots said Tuesday the group has received a $1 million commitment for a grant to help grassroots organizations during the midterm elections.

The Tea Party Patriots is the tea party’s largest organization, with connections to more than 2,800, smaller groups.

The Patriots said the grants are aimed at helping smaller groups improve their “on-the-ground” organizational efforts. The money, from an anonymous donor, is expect to be dispersed by Oct. 4, organizers said during a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington.

Organizers said the money cannot be used for endorsements and should be used to help advance the movement’s principles of limited government and free markets.
