White House correction: Obama likes his digs

← return to Inside Politics

The White House wants you to know that President Obama is not angry about having to living there.

The president’s press office issued a correction of the official transcript of his remarks Sunday night at the Kennedy Center Honors program, changing one of his comments from “I’m mad living here a little bit” to “I’m ad libbing here a little bit.” Mr. Obama’s remark came right after he praised actress Meryl Streep, telling the audience that “anybody who saw ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ had a crush on her.”

But the president’s comments were garbled by the official transcriber, and the liberal who was ad-libbing ended up with quite different words attributed to him.

The other honorees at the event were singers Barbara Cook and Neil Diamond, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins.
