White House rewrites history

← return to Inside Politics

The White House on Tuesday turned laughter into applause — literally.

An official White House transcript of President Obama’s remarks at a  fundraiser in Washington on Monday night quoted the president saying, “Over the last 15 months we’ve created over 2.1 million private  sector jobs.” The transcript then noted “(laughter),” presumably from the audience.

The Drudge Report posted this tidbit on its web site Tuesday.

At 4:04 p.m. Tuesday, the White House press office issued a corrected transcript, with the word “(laughter)” still on the page but crossed  out in ink and the word “(applause)” inserted in its place.
