Looking to rebut Democrats’ attacks on his Medicare plan, Paul Ryan is set to appear Saturday morning at The Villages, the Florida retirement community near Orlando — and he’s bringing his 78-year-old mom.

Betty Ryan Douglas, a part-time Florida resident, will join the her son at the event in The Villages, the world’s largest senior citizens’ community, according to the Associated Press.

The Republican vice-presidential candidate’s plans for Medicare have been the focus of Democrats’ and the Obama campaign’s attacks since Mitt Romney picked the Wisconsin congressman as his running mate a week ago.

Mr. Romney appeared in Florida earlier this week, but Saturday’s event will be Mr. Ryan’s first stop in the state as part of the Romney ticket.

Country singer Lee Greenwood is also scheduled to appear at The Villages’ event, which starts at 10 a.m.

President Obama is campaigning in New Hampshire on Saturday.
