A 29-year-old aide working for President Obama’s re-election campaign died Friday after collapsing at campaign headquarters in Chicago.

Alex Okrent, who worked in Obama for America’s paid media department, collapsed at the campaign office in the Prudential Building in downtown Chicago. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he was pronounced dead. No cause of death was given.

Mr. Obama learned of the death while campaigning in Virginia. He called Mr. Okrent’s family to express condolences, and later spoke with other campaign staffers in a conference call.

Mr. Okrent had worked for the Obama presidential campaign in 2008, and for Mr. Obama’s Senate campaign in Illinois in 2004.
