Washington Redskins rookie quarterback sensation Robert Griffin III is letting the world know that President Obama has chickened out of playing basketball with him one-on-one — or at least has declined his standing offer so far.

“He said he wouldn’t play me but I could play on his team,” Mr. Griffin told Yahoo News’ Chris Moody.

Mr. Griffin challenged Mr. Obama to the game after meeting him at the National Prayer Breakfast last year after the then-Baylor University football star won the Heisman Trophy.

The president likes to shake off the stress of the job by playing basketball with Cabinet members and friends and has an Election Day tradition of shooting hoops before returns come in.

Teasing Mr. Obama about rejecting his offer for a direct matchup, Mr. Griffin said that maybe he would be more open to a co-ed team.

“I don’t think he’ll ever play against me,” he said. “We’ll have it me and him versus [All-American Women’s Basketball Baylor senior] Brittney Griner and Mrs. Obama.”
