Santorum trumpets Romney ticket at Values Voter Summit

Former Mitt Romney rival Rick Santorum urged the social conservatives gathered at the Values Voter Summit on Saturday to get behind the Republican presidential nominee.

“Those who are out there … who may not be happy or content with the way things are going. They’re looking at the candidates, and it’s such an acrimonious election, as they all are these days, and may be thinking about not participating,” the former Pennsylvania senator told the crowd on the second day of the three-day gathering at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“I would just encourage you all: If you heard the speeches of Governor Romney and Paul Ryan over these last couple of days — these are people who understand American values.” he said. “They understand America, they understand the critical nature of this election.”

Mr. Santorum, one of the last Republican contenders to drop out of the GOP presidential primaries last spring, said he couldn’t sit on the sidelines because “this is the most imprtant election in the history of our country.”
