Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate, on Sunday blasted the Obama administration’s foreign policy, saying the incumbent Democrat simply lacks credibility and isn’t taken seriously by leaders in Iran as they move closer to acquiring nuclear weapons.
“The president has moved his rhetoric a bit to look more like ours, and that’s good. But the problem is it’s built on a mountain of noncredible actions,” Mr. Ryan, of Wisconsin, said on “Fox News Sunday.”
He alleged that the White House resisted economic sanctions on Iran until an overwhelming tide of bipartisan support forced the administration to get on board. While Mr. Obama has made clear that it’s unacceptable for Iran to gain nuclear capability, Mr. Ryan said no one in Iran believes the president will do anything about it.
“The ayatollahs [in Iran] don’t think we’re serious,” he said, adding that Mr. Obama’s larger foreign policy, in light of the recent attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, is now “unraveling before our eyes and our TV screens.”
