Veep meets 'Veep' as Louis-Dreyfus lunches at White House

Move over, Joe Biden. The other vice president is in the White House.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Vice President Selina Meyer on the HBO comedy “Veep” was spotted looking very much the tourist on the White House grounds Friday — smiling while posing for a photo outside the West Wing.

An administration official said she was on hand to have lunch with Mr. Biden, who is well aware of her portrayal in the show as the country’s ambitious but virtually powerless No. 2. He previously called to congratulate her after she won an Emmy award in the first season of “Veep.” The second season starts Sunday.

The official said the former “Seinfeld” star did not get a tour of any part of the White House before or after the lunch, and also wouldn’t say whether the vice president invited her over or she asked for the meeting to do a little first-hand research for her role.

It’s the height of the Cherry Blossom Festival season in Washington this week and the National Mall and downtown ares of the city are packed with tourists. But as long as the sequester budget cuts are in place, the White House has ruled that the public cannot access any part of the executive mansion.
