Sen. Max Baucus, Montana Democrat, plans to retire in 2014, according to The Washington Post.

The Post reported Tuesday that two senior Democratic strategists with inside knowledge of Mr. Baucus’ plans said the senator will not seek a seventh term.

Mr. Baucus, the head of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, has been considered a top Republican target in the 2014 election.

The move would put another dent in Democrats’ plans to keep control of the upper chamber.
