Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, is making on Monday his second trip in as many months to South Carolina, host of the first presidential primary in the South.
The Associated Press reported that Mr. Paul, a tea party favorite, is attending a fundraiser for Rep. Jeff Duncan, a South Carolina Republican who is one of the more conservative members of the House.
“Jeff Duncan is probably one of the most conservative members of the House,” Mr. Paul told The Associated Press. “I struck up a friendship with him, and he mentioned he was having this barbecue in the summer.”
Breitbart News reported last week that Mr. Paul will be joining Sen. Tim Scott, South Carolina Republican, at the event.
Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who has fallen out of favor with tea party activists, will not be there.
Mr. Paul and Mr. Graham have clashed over national security.
