Vice President Joseph R. Biden departed Sunday afternoon for a weeklong trip to Asian with two family members on his government plane — son Hunter Biden and granddaughter Finnegan.

Mr. Biden flew to Andrews Air Force Base in suburban Maryland from Nantucket, Mass., where his family spent the Thanksgiving holiday. He then departed on Air Force Two for Japan with his 15-year-old granddaughter and his younger son, who’s a partner in a New York law firm.

The vice president also will travel to South Korea and China, where he’s expected to discuss with Chinese President Xi Jinping the recent tensions over China’s expanded air defense zone over a chain of disputed islands in the East China Sea.
