Sen. Mark Kirk, Illinois Republican, had his gall bladder removed Monday morning after going to the hospital over the weekend.
“Saturday morning Senator Mark Kirk went to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital with stomach pains. Doctors determined that, due to the fact that he had gall stones, his gall bladder needed to be removed,” a statement from his office said. “This morning Senator Kirk underwent a successful surgery to have his gall bladder removed and is resting comfortably. His doctor expects a quick recovery.”
Mr. Kirk suffered a stroke in 2012 and returned to the Senate in January after a year of intensive rehabilitation.
