Rep. Paul Ryan thinks President Obama could learn a thing or two from one of his predecessors in the White House, Bill Clinton.
Mr. Ryan, appearing in a wide-ranging interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said Mr. Clinton would have sat down with Republicans and hammered out a deal on the fiscal crisis facing the country.
“If we had a Clinton presidency, if we had Erskine Bowles as chief of staff of the White House, or president of the United States, I think we would have fixed this fiscal mess by now. That’s not the kind of presidency we’re dealing with right now,” said Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, who was the party’s 2012 vice presidential nominee.
Host David Gregory asked about the former president after showing a clip of Mr. Ryan and Mr. Clinton shaking hands and chatting at the inauguration of Mr. Obama on Monday.
